You may use sentence connectors between two sentences. In this case, the first sentence is

followed by a period and the second sentence begins with the sentence connector followed

by comma. The second sentence begins with a capital letter too.


Examples

Abidjan is one of the largest cities in West Africa. Moreover, it has many modern office buildings.

It has an excellent port. Therefore, it is a center for importing and exporting goods.

It is the economic center of Ivory Coast. However, it is not the political capital of the country.

The hotel itself can accommodate 80 guests; in addition, there are several self-catering apartments.

My alarm did not go off; also, I had trouble starting the car.

The house is not big enough for us; furthermore, it is too far from the town.

Most of the evidence was destroyed in the fire. Thus, it would be almost impossible to prove him guilty.

Few of nation's largest cities are state capitals; thusneither New York nor Chicago is the seat of its state's government.

The bank refused to give the company more time. Consequently, it went bankrupt.

High level positions are at time rather stressful; as a result, professionals can sometimes be extremely impatient.

The first part was easy; however, the second took hours. (Contrast).

The book is expensive; however, it's worth it.

You must run; otherwise, we will be late.

The company will rationalize its workforce; in other words, many of the staff will lose their job.

In informal language, you may use coordinators [FANBOYS] to join sentences.

I hit behind my mother, and I did not look at the teacher.

I wanted to talk to her, but I was afraid.

Kelly was a convicted criminal, yet many people admired him.

I could tell the teacher, or I could suffer in silence.

I could not tell the teacher, nor could I suffer in silence.

I cannot tell whether she is old or young, for I have never seen her.

I have never seen her, so I cannot tell whether she is old or young.

Exercise I

Combine the following pairs of sentences with connectors. Be sure to use correct punctuation.
